Regular exercise is really an important part of self-care. Although it can be difficult to carve out time for exercise, a home treadmill can make the difference between exercising and not. As a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom, I wanted to refocus on my heath and start exercising and enjoy the benefits of running. The NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill helped make my exercise goals a reality. This article describes 5 benefits of running on a home treadmill.

5 Benefits of Running on a Home Treadmill

1) Save Money on a Gym Membership

Monthly gym membership rates average $58 per month (varies by where you live), but I can guarantee I would not make it there on a regular basis. I would rather invest in an exercise machine, like the NordicTrack Treadmill, that I can and will use at home on a regular basis.

2) Easy to fit in 11 minutes of daily exercise

According to Dr. Laskowski in an article on mayoclinic.org, adults need 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise, like running per week. You can fit that in by running 11 minutes per day on your home treadmill. Traveling to a gym may only take a few minutes, but I can run a mile in that time instead.

3) Eliminates exposure to allergens

If you have allergies and asthma, you know what a big deal this is. I’m allergic to some perfumes, smoke, essential oils, animal dander, and the outdoors. When I would try running outside in the past, I did not make it far before getting an asthma attack and stopping to take my inhaler. With an indoor treadmill, I can run without risk of exposure to environmental and seasonal allergens that I come across in community settings.

4) Progress at your own pace

A home treadmill allows you to start where you are comfortable and gradually improve your time, intensity, and distance to progress at your own pace. The NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill allows you to adjust your speed, incline, and has a nice visual for where you are in a 1/4 mile lap. You can also see your heart rate and how many calories you’ve burned. These adjustments and visuals make it easy to challenge yourself and progress at your own pace.

When I first started, I would switch between walking and running. I gradually progressed to run my first mile in 12 minutes and now I am working towards running a 9 minute mile.

5) Physical and Mental Health

Adults need 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or about 11 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per day. With my busy life, I would rather run for 11 minutes than try to fit in 30 minutes of exercise to meet my health goals. In addition, running releases endorphins and can be a great boost to mood and may lower depression.

Conclusions on Benefits of Running on a Home Treadmill

A home treadmill can benefit your health and your pocketbook. Regular exercise on a home treadmill will save you money on gym memberships. You may prevent or lesson health issues related to insufficient exercise. You can progress at your own pace and easily fit in 11 minutes per day.

Location and Safety of a Home Treadmill

The NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill takes up about the same space as a couch. Be sure to keep your treadmill safe from young children. I keep mine in a room where my young children are not allowed. I put up the baby gate while I run so they can see me, but still remain safe from moving parts. Depending on where it will be safest from young children, you can keep your treadmill in a bedroom, office, in front of the TV, or in the garage.
