I am on my 5th year of using Evan-Moor’s Daily Math Practice books. No matter what core math curriculum I am using, I always use the Daily Math practice books for review and mastery of previously learned concepts. This review is based on my experiences using Evan-Moor’s 1st through 5th grade Daily Math Practice books.
Overview of Evan-Moor’s Daily Math Practice Books
Math Practice Pages
Evan-Moor’s Daily Math Practice Books provide daily practice in grade level math concepts. Monday through Thursday, students are provided with a half page of 5 math problems, including 1 word problem. The fifth day is a full page activity providing more extensive practice.
Scope and Sequence
Each book includes a table of math concepts which align with grade level math standards for education. The table clearly shows which weeks include math problems from each specific concept.
An answer key is included at the end of the book for easy grading.
Benefits of Evan-Moor’s Daily Math Practice Books
Aligns with Grade Level Math Standards for Education
Daily Math Practice books will cover all of the content indicated by grade level educational standards for math. This alignment with grade level concepts will ensure that children practice and review all required content, limiting the probability of gaps in skills or instruction.
Provides Consistent Review and Practice of All Math Concepts
In order for children to master math concepts, they need to review and practice said concepts periodically. For example, if a child were taught about symmetry in one lesson, but did not practice it for months, they may not remember how to determine what is and is not symmetrical. The daily review and practice provided by the Evan-Moor practice books will help children retain and master math concepts.
Layout and Font
The visual layout, illustrations, and font sizes are perfect for each grade level. The problem pages have never been visually overwhelming for my autistic children.
Limitations of Evan-Moor’s Daily Math Practice Books
These books do not include math instruction, so they can not be used as a core math curriculum by themselves. However, Evan-Moor recently came out with a Math Fundamentals series that could be combined with the Daily Practice books for a complete math curriculum.
Use with Math Fundamentals as a Complete Math Curriculum
In order to have a complete Evan-Moor math curriculum, combine the Daily Math Practice Series with Math Fundamentals. You can buy them separately, or as a special discounted homeschool bundle. The homeschool bundle is only available in the printed version. Both print and e-book versions are available for grades 1 through 6. CLICK HERE to learn more.
